March Meeting 2016
A smaller turnout for this meeting but it was an interesting one. Brian, our President, dealt with club matters and presented certificates to last month’s competition medal winners. It was noted that the Central Region’s competitions are to be hosted by the Kawarau club on the 22-23 September 2016. Competitors were reminded to start preparations for entries.
Then Maurice carried on with the theme of identifying basic tastes started by Norm last month. This is part of our in house training for those interested in becoming accredited judges. This month he presented the 3 tastes most confused by tasters. These are acid, bitterness and astringency and were presented in water to each member present for identification. These tastes are found in wines and beers and it is important for them to be recognised. After a lot of discussion it became apparent that most could identify the tastes.
Brian won the raffle which was a collection of brewing products including enhancers, turbo yeast and fermcontrol.
The Points Cups results for the month are: Gold to Brian for his Dry Red Grape, Graham and Brian Bronzes for their Pilsners.
